Introduction
Dr James contracts to the Centre for Wireless Monitoring and Applications, Griffith University where he heads the Sport and Biomedical Division and is a Fellow the Queensland Academy of Sport, Centre of Excellence for Applied Sport Science Research. He works on a number of industry based wireless applications and is principally engaged in using small technologies to enhance athlete assessment, and works on a number of projects with other elite sporting bodies. He is interested in applications of Sports Engineering for elite athletes, holds several international patents in this area and some other awards. Dr James co-founded the Biomonitoring Group (later to become part of the CWMA) and holds BSc(Hons), MPhil and PhD degrees. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE, an executive member and chair of publications of the ISEA sports engineering association. He undertook a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Fellowship in 2007 was supported in 2008 by an Australia Japan Foundation grant to continue his collabration with A. Prof. Yuji Ohgi at Keio University and a Yokohama based company. His training was initailly in Physics, including a stint in the Antarctic as a glaciologist, before completing a Masters in Sensor technology and his PhD in Radio Physics. Working as a research fellow in Psycho physiology and lecturing in exercise science gave him an intrest in joining the disciplines of engineering with people. After a stint in the finance sectorin the UK he returned to work at Griffith university on a range of projects with Australia’s elite sports bodies. In real life he has recently discovered parenthood, is an executive member of Aikido Yuishinkai Australia and heads the teaching programme at Griffith Aikido.
